05/09: Logitech Harmony 885
Owning a AV Receiver, Media Center PC, a digital cable set top box, a TV and a DVD player is great. The downside is that they all come with their own remote control unit, so I had to use three different remotes just to watch TV (viewing using my TV, sound via my AV receiver, signal from my digital cable set top box).
Last week I have bought a solution for this remote control jungle: the Logitech Harmony 885. This remote control emulates all other remotes, has a nice color LCD display to see what you are doing and works by activity and not by device.
For example: to watch TV I know just push the button 'Watch TV' instead of getting my TV remote to power up my TV and switch to AV1, my AV Receiver remote to power the receiver up and switch to TV input and my STB remote to power up the STB and switch to the correct channel. Works like a charm and the remote is very easily programmable via USB connection and internet!
16/08: You make me feel
Relaxing flash animation, apparently controlled by your local weather conditions and time: You make me feel.
From the creators website:
The Unseen Video,
a weather controlled, dynamic music video for Mike Milosh's - You Make Me Feel.
The Unseen Video is much more than a normal, static music video. It is a video that is affected by the weather and local time from the position of the viewer.
We want to create new synergies between the music, the video and the surroundings of the viewer. Every little change in your environment ensures that you will never see the same video twice. The look of the video might slightly change within an hour, but will have a whole new character in a few months.

16/08: Japanese anti-piracy ad
Anti-piracy ads tend to be very annoying, especially when you are forced to watch the ad each time you start a legally bought full-price DVD without any possibility of skipping it, it almost makes you downloading the illegal version instead.
But at least this Japanese version is artistically more interesting (but very over the top) than the Dutch one.

03/08: Elevator hacking
Apparently lots of elevators have an express mode that lets you override everyone else’s selections and go straight to the floor you’re going to. You just press “Door Close” and the button for your floor at the same time.
I don't know if this works on non-US elevators too and I have not (dared to) tried it myself, but if it works it would be very cool ;-)

This weekend I have bought myself two new gadgets that should make life more easy: the Paradigit Enjoy 2005 Windows Media Center PC and the Roomba Discovery SE robot vacuum cleaner.
After using them both for a few days I am rather delighted with all the features. Recording a TV show on my harddisk while watching another TV show and cleaning my house, all at the same time ;-)
